The German Language School Wellington is a parent initiative that was founded with the aim of teaching German speaking children aged 5 years and above German conversation, reading, writing, and grammar. We also want to foster friendships and build a community with other German speaking children and families, and to have fun learning about and celebrating cultural events together.

What started out as a small gathering of German families at a local play centre in 2008 has developed into a multi-member interactive parent cooperative. Today, we run a specifically designed German Literacy programme, using fit-for-purpose classrooms, and are teaching over 30 students every school term. It’s a place for parents to meet and for children to make friends.

The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. The Goethe-Institut New Zealand is based in Wellington. We offer German language classes in both Wellington and Auckland.

The Goethe Society Wellington aims to promote German language and culture in the broadest sense, providing a place to meet for those who enjoy speaking German and are interested in German history, literature, music, art, films, and current events.

This playgroup is for babies, toddlers and pre-school children. The group aims to promote German language and culture. Participants are asked to speak, sing, and play in German during the group session to allow the children to have regular exposure to the German language (even if the children choose not to respond in German)
